Thomas Prud’Homme
Trail advisor
God morgen, 2 years ago, after a phone call from Vincent, Exaequo Voyages guide for this trip, I decided to join the Norway Fjord Trail adventure. Ultra motivated and both in love with Norway for a long time, we set off to find an authentic trail, with typical and natural routes. The idea was to show a summary of Norway, without filter, as we see it.
Testimonials
“A team that takes great care of us, everything seems oiled. The stay is adapted to everyone’s pace, very well supervised and secure. Don’t change a thing!”
“The stay was a real success thanks to the nature routes as well as the diversity of the sites offered. The atmosphere you were able to create was great, the races are accessible to all with the addition of hikes and visits to tourist places Everything is well thought out upstream, it’s hard to do better.”
“A big thank you to our 3 guides for the secure routes (markings, briefing, wire clamp…) and adapted to everyone’s pace, as well as for your kindness and good humor. The organization is carried out with a master’s hand (management of transitions and transport, shopping/activities). I am delighted with this stay, and ready to recommend it to my runner friends and to go back again with Exaequo Voyages.”
“The involvement of the organizing staff is dosed to perfection, neither too much nor not enough. A racing spirit without being in a competition, that’s perfect. The exchanges with the organizers are interesting and constructive. Very good preparation of the ground and readjustment if necessary. A very pleasant trip.”
The Norway Fjord Trail is an intense and unique immersion in the Sognfjord and Hardanger regions, two of the most beautiful places in Norway, known as the Fjords region.
This destination offers an original roaming discovery of Norway to enjoy a maximum of landscapes in 7 days.
The trail is a condensed of Norway with courses that highlight the various Norwegian’s landscapes: fjords, snowy plateaus, valleys, canyons. The grounds will be particularly diversified: paths, screes, stairs, turfs, etc. The 4 stages present a wild and natural spirit that will not leave you indifferent. The D+ and the technical nature of the routes are not to be taken lightly. Like on our other destinations we offer a long version: 60km/2700D+ (run only) and a short version: 41km/950D+ (walk or run). In addition to the courses, we offer 2 treks, one on the Myrdal plateau (10km) and another in Trolltunga (27km). The trek to Trolltunga is a marvel with an arrival on the tongue of Troll, a rock suspended in the air which will give you an impression of freedom and a breathtaking view over the valley. Beware of vertigo !
The trip is organised as a loop with a departure and arrival at Bergen (a UNESCO World Heritage City), known for its famous district of Bryggen with its colorful facades, red, ocher and yellow. Bergen will be the first stage. If the short version will start from the top of the hill with a loop on Mount Floyen, the long version will start with a mythical ascent in Norway. The majority of the ascending elevation will be done in one go, the famous “Stoltzekleiven opp” – 550D+ in 1K.
Every year, it is the rendez-vous of athletes (or not) from Bergen who try to climb this mount as quickly as possible. This ascent gathers around 5700 people with a departure every 10 seconds! The rest of the route will offer you a magnificent view of Bergen, its bay and its hill.
Then, we will depart by train to Myrdal, a superb journey from Bergen to the Sognfjord region. Nestled between two peaks, the village is accessible only by train. In the afternoon, you can enjoy the hotel facilities (swimming pool) or go for a trek of 10km.
The next day, the stage will depart from the hotel to descend towards Flam. A stage of 16km all downhill on the Rallarvegen with a road section at the end of the route (950D-). The descent will offer you magnificent views of the valley and you can surely see the old Flamsbanen train which goes back to Myrdal. You’ll have the opppurtnity to do a cruise inside one of the most beautiful fjord of the country, le Nærøyfjord (60€). We will spend the afternoon in Flam, a tourist village nestled in the Flamdal Fjord (often cited as the most beautiful in Norway) which will offer you many festivities: museum, zodiak excursion, discovery of the fjord and souvenir shop.
In the late afternoon, we will go to Osterbo by bus, a site located in the nearby Aurland valley where we will spend the night. The third stage will take you through the imposing canyon dug by the river, a place of tranquility unheard of. Pay attention to the passage of screes, on the cornices and waterfalls. We promise you an absolute bliss !
After this demanding stage, the next stop will be Hardanger. We will stay Chez Liseth, a bed and breakfast hotel where you will sleep in the famous ‘Hytte’ (cabins). An outing to the Voringfossen site will be offered. A walk of 15min is needed. A place straight out of the “Lord of the Rings” with 3 waterfalls. Do not forget your raincoat !
The last stage will start from the Simasdal Fjord the long version and from the hôtel for the short version. This stage will not be an easy task. It takes you to the plateau of Hardangervidda. The path will quickly turn into a peat bog. Do not be afraid to get wet feet !
Then, we will leave by bus and we will go along the fjord through the cities of Eidfjord a arriving to the Hardanger B&B. The evening we will make a barbecue to accompany the award ceremony.
To finish the sporting part of the stay, we will take you the next morning for a trek to Trolltunga (27km/1400D+), a unique place where not many people are able to go. We count 8 hours of walking A/R. Do not forget your camera ! The view is going to be incredible.
As soon as the walk is over, we will drive to Bergen for a free evening and a free morning before the departure on Friday early afternoon.

Although Norway Fjord Trail is above all a running and cultural holiday, it is nevertheless a “leisure competition”. This stage trail gives rise to a classification by stage as well as a cumulative classification at the end of the stay. The stages will take place in the morning.
CHOICE OF DISTANCE : When you register you choose the desired distance (short or long distance). You can change your choice until the day of departure by notifying us (race director). During your stay, depending on your state of form you can move from one distance to another without claiming to appear in the final ranking of your event
RACE MARKING : Markings will be done in the eve of the races using stakes, biodegradable soil bombs and/or ribbons attached in the vegetation. A printing map and gpx files are given to every runner, even though it remains unlikely to get lost!
THE TRACKS : The organization reserves the right to modify the routes according to the evolution of the terrain or the weather conditions.
REFRESHMENTS : Water and fruit supplies (dry and fresh) will be set up at the finish line.
SECURITY : Three or four staff members will also be positioned alongside the race, especially at the front and back, in order to guide participants and ensure the safety of the group. A medical team, including an ambulance, a doctor and all the first aid medical equipment necessary to the organization of a race in competition will be set up on every stage.
RANKING : The times of each competitor are timed in hours, minutes and seconds. Each stage gives rise to a ranking and the general classification is done by adding the times obtained at each stage.
EQUIPMENT : For the race, you must be equipped with a minimum capacity of 1 liter of water (camel back or gourds) and a minimum of food (cereal bars, gels …), a survival blanket, adequate trail shoes, a whistle and a running jacket (waterproof). This material is checked at the beginning of the adventure. Depending on weather conditions, we strongly advise you to be equipped with a thermal insulation layer (top) as well as waterproof pants, a fleece style jacket or down jacket, hat and gloves. The use of sticks is allowed.
